Soft pastels, oil pastels and paints

Pigment index and lightfastness, or an honest blank

'Artist quality' is a phrase anybody may print. A pigment index is not. Where a maker publishes those ratings we print them; where they do not, we say that instead of filling the gap.

What you get on every listing

Ratings where they exist

Printed as the maker gives them, with the pigment index, so you can predict what will still be there in five years.

Stick count and dimensions

Length, diameter and whether the sticks are square or round — which changes how a set behaves on its side.

Binder and grade named

Soft, hard or oil pastel, and student or artist grade by the maker's own classification, marked as theirs.

Artist quality is a phrase anybody may print. A lightfastness rating is not.

Foam collar, so nothing can slide

A soft pastel is pigment with almost no binder and snaps under its own weight, so every set is re-seated in its tray behind a collar before the outer box is closed.
